The modern divers watch was first presented, in 1953 by three watch brands. Two of them are very well known for this accomplishment: Blancpain, for the 50 Fathoms, and Rolex, for the Submariner. But theres a third brand which also debuted what’s recognizably a modern diver’s wristwatch: Zodiac with the launch of its Sea Wolf.
The original Sea Wolf had all the attributes of a serious diver’s instrument watch, including great legibility and a rotating timing bezel, and for a couple of decades continued to make tough, durable, relatively affordable watches that were enthusiastically adopted by military personnel, among others, including the Navy SEAL teams.
Designed exclusively for the supersaturation divers, the Super Sea Wolf was designed to withstand external pressure of 75 ATM (2 442 feet). Zodiac claimed that the helium gas pressure would not pop the special mineral glass screw-on crystal, screw in back or screw in crown, simply put gas could not enter the case.
This Super Sea Wolf 75 ATM has a perfect and very desirable brushed rounded case as opposed to the more common flat squared off polished case. Dial is super crisp and has a beautiful all around patina to it.
The crystal is free of scratches and the movable outer bezel is calibrated in minutes with a special ratchet locking device to avoid accidental displacement during timing operations. The case back is clean and the stampings are clean and crisp.
The original screw down crown has been replaced.
