Artist: Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939)Title: Amants - Theatre de la RenaissanceDate: 1895Size (w x h): 42.5 x 55 in / 108 x 140 cmPrinter: Affiches Camis, Quai de Jemmaps, ParisMaterials and Techniques: Colour lithograph on paperLinen backing: YesCondition: A- The piece was restore 5 years ago because of a minor chip paint on the paper today the piece is in mint condition but because the piece was restored we can not call it A+ there fore it is an A- Additional Details:"Amants", Lovers, is a comedy in five acts created by Maurice Donnay, a French dramatic author, elected to the Académie Française (French Academy) in 1907.The play was premiered on November 5th, 1895 at the Théâtre de la Renaissance with Lucien Guitry and Jeanne Granier (1852-1939) as Claudine Rozeray.This theatre poster by Mucha, the first without Sarah Bernhardt, was one of three projects he did with the printer Camis before settling with Champenois.It is divided into three parts: in the top left a Guignol theatre amuses the children, in the top right a dramatic illustration of a weeping woman falling on a table, and finally in the lower part scenes from the play. There are elegant characters, a violinist, flowers, dancers and champagne, all that characterizes the Parisian celebrations of the Belle Epoque.
