Maurice De Saxe's work on the art of war, described by Thomas Carlyle as "a strange military farrago, dictated, as I should think, under opium." The volume was praised by Frederick the Great of Prussia, who kept a copy by his bedside.

Maurice, Count of Saxony was a German soldier and officer of the Army of the Holy Roman Empire, the Imperial Army, and at last in French service who became a Marshal and later also Marshal General of France

Condition
