Description
This is an antique prie dieu dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850. Raised on turned front legs and swept rear, all riding upon the original brass castors, this attractive chair is framed in rosewood contrasting beautifully with the cream needlepoint upholstery. Traditionally stuffed, the seat pad is in good order decorated, along with the back panel, with a rich tapestry of flora and fauna in mellow pastel shades. The barley twist stiles rise into blind fret, carved brackets beneath a scrolled, carved crest rail. The plain finished back panel making it ideal for centre room placement.
