Item Details

Description

PRESSED COLUMN AND RIB NAPPIES, LOT OF TWO, comprising a cobalt blue example with pairs of columns separated by a rib and 44-ray sunburst base with central polished pontil mark, and a colorless example with alternating columns and ribs and 36-ray sunburst base, raised on a heavy flared foot with 15-scallop edge and seven-step interior, wafer construction. Each nappie with scallop-and-point rim. Probably Midwestern. 1835-1850. 1 1/2" H, 6 3/4" D, and 4" H, 6 1/4" D rim, 3 1/2" D foot.
Blue example with moderate flaking/mold roughness to top of rim, not affecting the underside profile, and a small underfill, other with chip to top of rim and several shallow chips to underside of foot.
Literature: Innes - Pittsburgh Glass, p. 236, pl. 233, fig. 1.
Provenance: From a 40-year Pittsburgh area collection.

Condition

Blue example with moderate flaking/mold roughness to top of rim, not affecting the underside profile, and a small underfill, other with chip to top of rim and several shallow chips to underside of foot.
