Description
The daughter of botanist David Fairchild, the grand-daughter of Alexander Graham Bell and the wife of naturalist Marston Bates, author Nancy Bell Bates tells of a life in a strange land. It is full of strange sights, strange animals, and strange customs (a day's saddle journey from Villavicencio where they lived takes you straight into the seventeenth century). The most engrossing part of her story, however, is how she and her husband share in the battle against yellow fever as they conduct research on monkeys and mosquitoes for the Rockefeller Foundation to find the links in the chain that keeps the deadly virus alive in the world. Pub. 1947 by Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York and Charles Scribner’s Sons Ltd., London. Clean, sound book with just minor bumping at spine ends. Unclipped, clean jacket has minor chipping and tiny tears at spine ends. True first edition with Scribner's "A" on copyright page. 6 x 8.5. 237 pp; indexed.
