Item Details

Description

Mat glaze lamp vase with carved and painted thistle design created in 1905 most likely by Kataro Shirayamadani. There is no artist's mark but the other carved pieces we've had with this shape number were all done by Shiri and this certainly seems to be his work. Marks include the Rookwood logo, date, shape 1132 and an impressed V for Vellum. There are cast holes in the bottom and side to accommodate wiring. Uncrazed but having clusters of tiny open glaze bubbles on two of the feet. Height is 8 1/4 inches.
