Description
Unusual carved and painted Vellum glaze vase with cloisonné like flowers done in 1916 by William Hentschel. Five black flower stalks with white, yellow and red flowers appear to be inlaid onto a blue ground. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date, an impressed V and the incised monogram of the artist. The lack of shape number and the incised initials "H.S.H." on the side would indicate the vase was made as a present by Hentschel, perhaps for his first wife, noted dancer Halina Feodorova. Height 7 3/8 inches. Fine overall crazing.
