Chinese porcelain covered box is sturdily potted in a deep vessel with circular construction, raised from rounded sides over a wide cavetto. The exterior decorated by applying a variety of five-colored pigments creates bold opaque hand-painting, of blue and red blooms with a single magpie perched in the tree branches. A magpie is known as the bird of joy and is widely viewed as a good omen. Bisected into equal parts with a snug fitting cap and base. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman.


Mark on base, a six underglaze blue script -KaiShu- characters enclosed within two fine rings, Made in The Years of KangXi Reign Period of Great Qing.
