A YIXING BLUE-GROUND ENAMELLED 'LANDSCAPE' SNUFF BOTTLE, QING DYNASTY
Brown stoneware covered with cobalt-blue enamel. China, 1780-1860
Molded on each of the main sides with a raised circular white panel, delicately enameled with landscape scenes, one with a pagoda surrounded by trees and rocks, the other with a horse under a pine tree, the surrounds of foot and neck covered with blue enamel as well.
Shape: Flattened round shape
Hollowing: Standard
Mouth, neck and lip: Elongated cylindric neck with slightly slanted lip, flat top exposing the naked brown stoneware, cylindric small mouth
Base: Oval base with raised foot rim exposing the naked brown stoneware, the inner of the foot with a delicate turquoise-green glaze
Design, marks, school: Yixing
Stopper: Red coral with a black platelet
Height of the bottle with stopper: 7.2 cm.
Width of the mouth: 6 mm.
Width of the neck: 14 mm.
Condition: Some wear to the panels, one tiny chip to neck restored (well visible), one firing line to left shoulder (length ca. 4 cm)
