A YELLOW-OVERLAY PINK 'CRANES & PINES' GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
Opaque pink glass with carved and incised lemon-yellow overlay, with some scattered minuscule air bubbles. China, 1780-1860
The bottle is carved through the yellow overlay to the pink ground, with a continuous scene of pine trees and branches and lingzhi growing from rocks, with a standing crane on one side and a departing crane on the other, with his wings already wide spread. Mock ring handles to the shoulders.
Shape: Flattened round shape
Hollowing: Standard
Mouth, neck and lip: Sprawling neck, slanted inner and outer lip, deep cylindric mouth
Base: Oval, with raised and rounded foot rim
Stopper: Green glass cabochon
Height of the bottle with stopper: 7.1 cm.
Width of the mouth: 7 mm.
Width of the neck: 16 mm.
Condition: Two chips to neck restored, several chips to overlay, a few of them restored
