EARLY HIRADO BLUE & WHITE JAPANESE PORCELAIN TEA BOWL W/COVER – Finely made porcelain tea bowl with blue under glaze foliate design with orange/red enamel & gilt embellishment. This piece bears no markings, and includes a typed reference paper written by the collector stating that the small pieces without marks were made for Prince Hirado himself around 1750, its sale being strictly forbidden to anyone else. The cover fits snugly into the bowl on a recessed edge. Condition: Good, with no cracks, chips or repairs. Some discoloration to edges and bottom consistent with age. Dimensions: without cover - 2 ½” H x 5 ¼” diameter, cover -4 ¾” diameter. Provenance: This lot is from the Florida estate of collector J.J. Schmidt Jr. who established an extensive antiquity collection from 1935 - 1980.
