Second half 19th century, 162 x 118 cm, East Caucasus
A design of abstract animals ascends along the central axis of the midnight blue field, surrounded by Talish rosettes. The main border shows the zoomorphous vine design of highly stylised birds placed in offset rows that is widespread in the Caucasus. This Shirvan was purchased from Bernheimer in Munich in 1985. – Original finishes all around, the sides are partially damaged. Uniformly low pile, minor repiled sections.
