DESCRIPTION: A fine southern bird's eye and tiger maple mammy's rocking bench circa 1820 -1840 probably from the Carolinas. The form consisting of horizontal back boards and framing with shaped arms and an original rush seat. The unusual feature is a front rail that rises to convert the bench to a cradle rocker for young children. A typical southern form. MEASUREMENTS: 53” wide x 31” deep x 32” high. CONDITION: Cracks to wood and losses to twining.
