DESCRIPTION: Waltham Riverside pocket watch. Open face, stem wound, pendant set. White porcelain single sunk dial with subsidiary seconds, marked "Waltham". Movement marked "A.W.W.Co. Waltham, Mass. Riverside 19 Jewels Adjusted 14053247". Marked 14K yellow gold Keystone case serial #5059914. Dust cover engraved "Presented to William D. Sellers by Cyrus Curtis President The Curtis Publishing Co. for unusual services rendered TheSaturday Evening Post". Back covered monogrammed "WDS". William Sellers (September 19, 1824 to January 24, 1905) was a mechanical engineer, manufacturer, businessperson, and inventor who filed morethan 90 patents, most notably the design for the United States standard screw thread. As president of the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sellers proposed the adoption of a system of screw threadswhich was easier for ordinary mechanics and machinists to cut than a similar design by Joseph Whitworth.
