Description
Glazed ceramic with paint and gold. Japan, Meiji period
On the slightly vaulted lid are, seated before the Bodhisattva, or rather the Goddess Kannon, several rakkan with their holy, golden nimbuses. Among them are two female beings and a boy. The outside features purely landscape, sansui-style painting. Inside, on the bottom of the bowl is a red peony blossom. Inside the foot ring, beneath the satsuma cross are the characters for the name KYOKU-ZAN 旭 山, which literally means “dawn at the mountain”.
Condition: Very well preserved
