Nicholson, Ben (British, 1894–1982), Urbino, 1965, (Lafranca #1), etching printing with plate tone on white paper, a unique impression aside from the edition of 50 printed for a personal friend, measuring 210x150 mm; 8 1/4x5 7/8 inches, a brilliant impression with full margins. Pencil signed with a florid signature, with an inscription in black and brown ink on the reverse, "lent to David Lewis & Pat to become his & her property when I pop", Provenance: gift directly from Ben Nicholson to David and Pat Lewis, Pittsburgh Pa. circa 1968. The Lewis's were personal friends of Ben Nicholson and David Lewis was a close personal friend of the artist beginning in the late 1940's.
