Milk In The Batter! from "In the Night Kitchen", illustrated and hand-signed art print by the artist, Maurice Sendak, 1971.

The Night Kitchen print was part of 200 copies hand-signed by Sendak for distribution and sale in a 1996 traveling exhibition SENDAK IN ASIA for Japan and Thailand.
Printed only one year after the book was originally published and the very first time this double-page image is printed on a single sheet of paper (in the actual book it is divided into two halves at the centerfold).

Milk in the batter!", the second chef, "We bake cake", the third, "And nothing's the matter!" The first chef wields a sifter as a megaphone, and the third chef holds a large spoon as a guitar.

Condition: good original estate condition.

In THE NIGHT KITCHEN was first published in 1970, and in 1971 Sendak created a series of his favorite drawings from his own books—newly photographed from the original artwork and reproduced as single prints. The series was called PICTURES and included 19 separate images from 8 books. It is thought that 5000 copies were printed for Harper & Row and 1000 copies each for The Bodley Head (UK) and Diogenes (Germany). None of the plates were issued signed.
