Chickering Carved Rosewood Square Grand Piano, c. 1882, Serial # 68601, with an iron sounding board, with 88 keys, on massive fruit carved legs with scrolled feet, H.- 38 1/4 in., W.- 84 1/2 in., D.- 43 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Approximately 27 white Condition consistent with age and use. Approximately 27 white keys are discolored. It is unknown if the strings are original. The veneer on the top of the piano has two ring marks, shows signs of shrinkage, and the back edge has chips in an approximate 14” section. The right side shows signs of shrinkage. The legs are worn with some loss of carving, particularly on the back legs. Each key plays. An elegant example.
