Derby plate with hand painted floral design entitled "Large Eastern Poppy", probably by John Brewer circa 1800. This series of Derby floral plates were hand painted after prints published in The Botanical Magazine by William Curtis, published in 1791 - 1828. The plate is hallmarked in red with a crown over crossed swords over a curl mark and was used after 1782. The plate is 8 7/8"D and in excellent condition. Note the yellow sticker on reverse marked "The Collection of Joseph Verner Reed" (Retired US Ambassador to Morocco 1981-1985).
