Description
Vietnamese Blue & White Porcelain Silver Rimmed Bowl W/Fenghuang Prunus Mume Scene & Calligraphy (Has Two Character Marking) - This porcelain bowl is elaborately decorated in blue underglaze depicting an ornate scene of a Fenghuang (phoenix) among a Prunus Mume (plum blossom) tree. It is believed that the Fenghuang only appears in areas or places that are blessed with utmost peace and prosperity or happiness. It is a symbol of high virtue and grace, and is said to represent power sent from the heavens to the Empress. The bowl is also finished with calligraphy on the opposite side of the bowl. The bowl is finished with a silver rim, as selected vessels were finished with rims of silver as early as the Han dynasty to set them apart from the ordinary, and to make them suitable for high class clients. This also protects them from damage. The base of the bowl bears a two character marking in a vivid blue underglaze. This is a true modern day treasure, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Vietnamese history. This piece has excellent investment potential, as it is thought by experts around the world and avid collectors that due to the rapid modernization of Vietnam, Vietnamese antiques will within the next ten years be more valuable than Chinese antiques. According to some of the most expert collectors in the world, what used to sell for hundreds are now selling for tens of thousands. Measurements (approximate): 7" in diameter x 3.5"H. Please note: the bowl has been repaired due to war, please see photos.
