A gold discoid pendant in Byzantine style, with ropework rim, ribbed suspension loop with stud below; one face with low-relief nativity scene with nimbate holy family, star, animals and onlookers; the other face with nimbate Christ receiving baptism from John with angels to one side and sunburst above. 5.94 grams, 35mm (1 1/2"). Property of a British gentleman; formerly in the private collection of Russian businessman Yuri Golubev (1942-2007), some of his collection was published in his book 'Symbols and Images'; acquired on the London art market 1990s-2007.
