Description
20th-18th century BC. A carved haematite cylinder seal depicting three standing figures with owner's inscription in three columns, accompanied by a museum quality impression and a typed, unsigned scholarly note by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: A group of three standing figures: in the centre the god with mace on a pedestal, facing him a priest with bucket and sprinkler, behind him a Lama goddess. Inscription naming the ancient owner: ?unnubum, son of Puzur-Ninkarrak, servant of Ninshubur. Old Babylonian, c. 1900-1700 BC. Fine condition and fine deep engraving. 11.32 grams, 25mm (1"). Property of a Mayfair, London, UK, ancient art collector; acquired in the 1970s-1980s; inventory number PL7.
