Catalogue Note: Johan Melchior Roos (1659-1731) was born into an important German family of artists during the Baroque period. Likely a student of his father, Johan Heinrich Roos (1631-1685), Johan the younger also studied at the Hague and in Rome. He is best known for his paintings of landscapes and animals.
