RUSSIAN ICON, having depiction of Jesus on the Cross centered within four panels, one to each corner, depicting Mary and Child upper left, St. Nicholas upper right, St. George slaying the serpent or dragon lower right, and the archangel Michael on a red winged horse lower left, with a depiction of God/the Father in clouds centered between the upper panels, gilt- and enamel-painted surface on wood, with illegible script lettering, likely Cyrillic. Board with single notched back slat. Probably 19th/early 20th century. 15" x 12 3/8" OA.
Fair to good condition, losses to surface along bottom edge margin continuing up into the border between the lower panels, and surface bubbled and cracked, with additional losses to St. George panel and to depiction of Jesus at his feet and base of cross, with later glue reinforcement to prevent losses, later overpainting to outer border, and some possible inpainting to images.
