Gouache and Watercolor on Paper Painting of a Spaniel. Artist signed lower right "Ward Binks, 30" and titled "Missy". (Reuben Ward Binks, b. 1880, Bolton, Lancashire, d. 1950, Westmorland). Was a noted English artist in canine portraiture, Lakeland landscapes and wildlife painting. Binks was recognized as the leading artist of his day in canine portraiture, not only in the UK but abroad. He painted dogs for three generations of the British Royal family, and among his patrons were four successive monarchs. Image sized 11-1/4" x 9", matted and rosewood framed, 23-1/2" x 20-1/2" overall. Condition: Very good with minor craquelure, matting has foxing and break on glass upper left.
