Description

IMPRESSIVE 19TH C BLUE & WHITE DRAGON PALACE VASE:
Trumpet shaped palace vase with two facing dragons. The detailed bas relief dragons transform in to three dimensional handles at the neck. They have molded and incised features. The vase is painted with an abundant blooming peony garden. The back has delicate cherry blossom branches. The top rim has two vignettes of peonies with cherry blossoms with butterflies in between. This is an unusually large and meticulously painted vase with a strong contrast between the delicate floral painting and the dynamic dragons. The foot is bordered with lotus petals with wading birds in the middle.

Provenance: local antique shop.
