Description
"Pieta" by Michangelo Full Size Carrara Marble Identical Replica W/Medici Seal - This amazing piece is a full-size copy of the iconic "Pieta" by Michelangelo. This sculpture is made of a powder of Carrara Marble, the same used by Michelangelo when he was working for the Medici family. The sculpture is identical to the one in the Vatican, and this copy comes with a Medici Seal and with a full description of the life and in particular the moment when Michelangelo signed the Pieta'. The Medici family was a patron of Michelangelo, and had 3 popes in the Vatican. The Pieta will come with a base, and included in the purchase Prince Lorenzo will attend a private unveil at the location that the owner will decide to locate the art work. Measurements: 69" x 77". This incredible piece has excellent investment potential, as Michelangelo is widely considered the greatest artistic genius that ever lived, and a man whose name has become synonymous with the word “masterpiece.” He was born Michelangelo Buonarroti in Italy and grew up in Florence, home of the Italian Renaissance. It was here that he received his education under the patronage of the de Medici family. His works include the world famous Pieta, David and the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. At the age of twenty-three, Michelangelo was working for the Medici family, and was commissioned by a Cardinal to create the Pieta for St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican as a tomb monument. He traveled to the marble quarries at Carrara in Tuscany, Italy in the Medici mine to select the block from which to make this large work. The choice of the stone was important because he envisioned the statue as already existing within the marble, needing only to be “set free” from it. It was sculpted from 1498-1500 and established Michelangelo instantly as the greatest sculptor of his time. The word Pieta means pity from the Greek word for “compassion” or “pity” (Michelangelo actually did two other Pietas later in life (both of them unfinished), one of them is in Florence and was purchase by the Medici Family). The de' Medici Dynasty, which created the Italian Renaissance, symbolizes unparalleled historical contributions to art, politics, banking, cuisine, medicine, accounting, philanthropy, commerce, geography, agriculture, religion, textiles, and fashion.
