Description
1865 1ed Charles Dickens Our Mutual Friend Last Novel Illustrated Social Satire
“No one who can read, ever looks at a book, even unopened on a shelf, like one who cannot.”
― Charles Dickens, Our Mutual Friend
A rare, first edition of Charles Dickens’ final novel – ‘Our Mutual Friend.’ This book follows the story of a young man found dead after learning of his father’s inheritance. It features heavy amounts of social satire and a bizarre view of English society. This first edition meets all the expected points for the first book edition, bound in one volume.
‘Our Mutual Friend’ was issued in monthly numbers from May 1864 to November 1865, the two volumes being published in book form, bound in cloth, in February and November 1865. The woodcut illustrations were the world of Marcus Stone, who made some of the illustrations for the ‘The Haunted Man.’” (Grolier)
