1706-Dated, Book with Integral Map & Fold-Out Illustrations titled, “De Gedenk Waardige Voyagie van Don Ferdinand de Soto,” by Peter Van Der AA, Dutch, Leyden, Choice Extremely Fine.
This wonderful, rare Book is an early account of the famous explorer Hernando (or Ferdinand) de Soto’s 1539 expedition in the Southeast and Florida. It has the fold-out Map titled, “T Amerikaans Gewest van Florida Door” just after the preface and includes 9 more fold-outs with various images of the Natives he encountered. The Map covers the area from Texas to the Chesapeake Bay, with many places noted with names. The Map is bright, fresh crisp and clean. A fold separation at left that has been professionally restored, a minor part of of image being replaced in facsimile at top. The additional nine fold-outs have minor light toning and faint foxing. There is minor damp stain along the top edge affecting a few of the fold-outs and about 10 pages of text. The modern marbled paper outer wrappers show as a very nice example.
