Rare Prisoner Release Document Signed by Frederick Douglass as United States Marshal at Washington, D.C.

January 7, 1878-Dated, Partially-Printed Document Signed, “Fred’ K Douglass,” as United States Marshal, Washington City, D.C., Choice Very Fine. Very rare 1 page, measuring 7” x 8.5” being well printed in black on white wove period paper, “Release” form, with signature at front lower right. In overall excellent condition, folded, with his Signature in deep brown, “Fred’ K Douglass” crisp and clear measuring over 3” long. We offered and sold a similar example in our EAHA Auction of February 9, 2018 which brought $1,200. Imagine in those days a “Prisoner Release” order such as this being issued by a Black American Marshal... this rarity Signed by the famous Frederick Douglass!
