Description
German carved wood and cast brass powder flask, probably Augsburg or Nuremberg, 19th century, the branching wood form carved on either side with low-relief hunting scenes, the brass fittings with anthemion, foliage, and figurals, on the original chain. 9.75" L X 6.25" W. Similar examples of this form are known to have contained items such as a bullet box, compass, and sundial; two brass caps are now screwed and nailed shut, but perhaps contain(ed) such elements; wear to carvings.
