The Muse lyre bronze sculpture with brown patina signed "Schoenewerk" in hollow on the terrace Beautiful quality chasing and patina Very beautiful sculpting and metalwork quality. Pierre Alexandre Schoenewerk (1820-1885) found great success during the Second Napoleonic Empire before his descent into madness and then suicide. He studied under David d'Angers and was heavily influenced by classic Italian art. He produced numerous busts and statues, contributing the decoration of many famous Paris landmarks such as the Louvre, the Tuileries, the Hotel de Ville, and the Opera.
