Rebecca. Rebecca was a 1940 American romantic psychological thriller film based on the 1938 novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier. The film stars Laurence Olivier as the brooding, aristocratic widower Maxim de Winter and Joan Fontaine (1917-2013) as the young woman who becomes his second wife, with Judith Anderson (1897-1992) as the housekeeper Mrs. Danvers. The book, Rebecca, Triangle Books, 1945, with Anderson’s signature laid-in on the first blank page, “All good wishes – Judith Anderson” and Fontaine signed on the reverse side: “To Captain J. C. Frederick Joan Fontaine”. The dust jacket is worn, the cover partially detached and inner pages age-browned.
