Item Details

Description

A French or German, antique, 18th century hand carved wood blanket chest carved with a leaf and vine rectangular border, heraldic roaring lions and asymmetrical foliate and shell forms. It is inscribed with initials and a date indicating it a wedding chest. Notice the decorative brass escutcheon with a key. The apron is decorated with a reticulated, scrolling leaf design. Dated 1789. Interior is fabric lined. DATE 18th century and later parts DIMENSIONS Width 57.75 Depth 20 Height 30 in.

Note: slight water damage (top). Later top (c. 1920).
