Russian bronze bear after Nikolai Lieberich, c.1900.(From MutualArt):"Nikolai Lieberich was a Russian sculptor who was born in 1828. Nikolai Lieberich has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at The State Russian Museum. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Hunter and hounds' sold at Christie's London 'Important Russian Art' in 2013 for $50,454. The artist died in 1883." Bronze bear: 6.5"x 2". Base: 8"x 0.5"
Condition
The work is not signed but has the fine casting and detail of a late 19th century original bronze by the hand of the master.There is a few missing pieces from the malachite base.From the Estate of Alex and Elisabeth Lewyt, NYC.The Lewyt family estate contained hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Impressionist art, that was sold at Sotheby's.David Killen Gallery bought the contents of the Lewyt townhouse that contained jewelry, furniture and the Lieberich bronze bear.
