An intricate finial for a Mandarins hat that has been mounted in a carved, filigreed wood mount decorated with paint and gilt. The mount and size of the stone makes a decorative statement.
The wood has been carved with prunus flowers and blossoms. The flower petals are in blue while the flower centers and branches are in gold. The blue paint on the wood mount complements the bluish gray of the stone. It is further enhanced with gilding which matches the shine of the brass. The brass mount, which has a dark patina from age, complements the bluish gray hardstone Mandarin hat final. There is a flower like top holdfast and a bottom metal mount with floral designs. The stone looks like it might have been stained the blue color because where the metal has rubbed is a pinkish color.
MEASUREMENTS 3 ½†(8.9 cm) tall x 2 ¼†(5.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 4.6 oz (130 g)
CONDITION A piece of the wood base has broken and is missing. There is metal wear under the top cap and around the metal base to the stone. It is not visible except when the mounts are lifted. There are natural dark and light spots on the stone with no chips or breaks.
A great large piece that will stand out in a collection or will stand out in your décor. I love the matching colors and intricacy of the carving.
