Description
case, drawers and dust boards are original remains of very rare escritoire chest on chest. Late 18th Century with rose head and T nail construction. Visible hinge locations and supports remain from original drop front writing surface. Mortised groves in back shows cabinet maker's intent for partitions but was never completed during construction. Numerous kerosene rings and burn marks remain from use on desk, walnut with yellow pine dovetailed case & drawers. ca 1850 modification of two punched tin doors under two over three graduated original drawers. Punched tins have original red & green paint. Bottom board turned feet and molding was added with cut nails at the same time. During modification diamond inlaid escutcheons were added to tie doors in with the drawers. Originally had brass pulls and escutcheons. 66 1/2"h x 46" w x 21" d.
