Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican-Lambayeque, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. Three silver tweezers, two depicting a Lord with a tumi-like headdress sitting on a reed boat (caballitos de tortora) and drinking from keros - the third depicting a large fish. The boat riders most likely represent Naymlap (also Naylamp, Nanlap, or Nylamp), the traditional founder of the Lambayeque dynasty, who came from the south by sea and colonized the region before he allegedly sprouted wings and flew off into the sunset in a dramatic display of his magical powers. Naymlap was worshipped by his descendants, and silver and gold vessels, weapons, jewelry, and precious tools like these are adorned with his likeness. These items have been found within the massive pyramid mounds at the center of Lambayeque's great cities, alongside mummy bundles and human sacrifices.
