Item Details
Description
Nicolai Konstainovich Bykov (Russian)
Bykov, Nicolai K.
"Spring-River Don" 1968
Oil on Canvas
39.5" x 31.5"
The painter Bykov was born in the village of Khava in the Voronezh Region, which is the heart of the famous Black Earth Region. He was born on the 30th of November in 1921. From 1938 until the onset of World War II in 1940 he studied under A.A. Buchkuri and M.P. Kroshitski at the Voronezh Art College. Buchkuri was the most well-known artist from the Voronezh Region at the time and many of the young artists of the time studied with him.
As with many of the young artists whose education was interrupted during the war Bykov did not pursue any formal education after returning from the war. However, he continued to paint and became a vital part of the art community. In 1950 he became a member of the artists’ union and began to show works in major exhibitions.
Major works include:
“Quiet Flows the Don,†1952, The Kromskoi Museum, Voronezh.
“The Concert,†1955, Exhibited in All Soviet Exhibition.
“A Warm Day,†1956, Voronezh Regional Exhibition.
“The River Don Below Belogori,†1957, Black Earth Zonal Exhibition.
“On the River Oka,†1958.
“Fishing,†1962.
Bykov died in 1970. During his brief career he was a vital part of the Voronezh art scene and participated in most regional, zonal, republic and All Soviet exhibitions. Few of this talented artist’s works have survived.
