Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
Ancient Near East, Sumeria, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. Ancient beads made from carnelian and faience dangling from the bottom of a modern deer skin leather braided cord, attached via modern gold-filled wire. The carnelian beads are of a similar style to those found in the "Great Death Pit," the most spectacular of Ur's Royal Tombs, which contained six men (each armed and found near the entrance, interpreted to be guards) and sixty-eight women. Almost all of the women wore jewelry and headdresses adorned with silver, gold, lapis lazuli, and carnelian - giving us an idea of how important these beads were in ancient Mesopotamia. A contemporary necklace made with ancient beads. Length of strands: 24" L (61 cm)
Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
