Description
Sir Peter Thomas Blake (British, b. 1932), "Sylvia Beach and James Joyce in front of her bookshop 'Shakespeare and Company'" from a series of 6 etchings entitled, "James Joyce in Paris", 1983-1984 CE. Numbered 51/73 and signed by the artist in pencil below the plate mark. While best known for creating the distinctive cover for the Beatle's Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), Peter Blake was also a major contributor to the British Pop Art movement - in the esteemed company of artists such as David Hockney, Richard Hamilton, and Patrick Caulfield. This is a wonderful work depicting James Joyce, an icon of avant-garde literature best known for his "Ulysses" (1922) as well as "The Dubliners" (1914), "A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man" (1916), and "Finnegans Wake" (1939) by this legendary British pop artist. Blake's works have been collected by the Tate Gallery in London, the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, among other respected institutions. Sir Blake was also knighted at Buckingham Palace for his contributions to the art world.

Condition
Etching appears to be in excellent condition, but has not been examined out of the frame. A few scuffs to the frame finish. Wired for suspension.
