vii, 56 pp. (8vo) 18.5x12 cm (7¼x4¾"), contemporary dark green half morocco, marbled paper sides and matching endpapers, gilt decorations and lettering. First edition in English.
A series of short poems on the seasons by the famous classical Sanskrit writer Kalidasa (circa 4th-6th centuries), translated by Henry Aimé Ouvry, father of antiquarian Frederic Ouvry and friend of John Payne Collier. Ouvry served in the British Army in India, was fluent in Sanskrit and translated other works by Kalidasa into English. OCLC records seven copies (three in Germany and copies at UC - 2, Newberry & Cleveland Public).
