Description
A pair of chimes commonly used to notify passengers that seatings were taking place in the dining car. (1) Deagan 4 chime with intact rubber feet, both hanging eyelets are present It has 2 Deagan markings: one small label on the front and the typical paper label on the reverse. The paper label on the reverse has some peeling and chipping. It measures 10 1/2" by 8". It has its original hammer and the tone is very nice (2) a single chime that measures 11" long. It has 2 eyelets. The eyelets were so that a porter could hang in around their neck.
These chimes were also used on ships to call for dining service or to locate telegram recipients. Theaters also used these to end intermissions. NBC TV still uses chimes to announce their call signal.
