Item Details

Description

This marvelous Russian lacquer box "Sadko In The Underwater Kingdom", that can adorn any collection, was painted by a talented artist Inna Balkova in the village of Mstera. Here the artist depicts the Sea King who is the character of many fairy-tales including "Sadko". Sadko is playing to him a mesmerizing song on a traditional Russian music instrument called "Gusli". On the background we see Russian ships and Sadko's kigdom. The composition is expertly detailed with egg tempera and gold paints. The edges and the sides of the lacquered box are adorned with beautiful gold ornamentation. The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Mstera. The size of this beautiful box is 4" x 6' x 1.7"
