Description
Oak Gambler's Box, 19th c., the compartmented interior with a deck of cards, gambling chips, and dice, theinterior lid with a hinged compartment fitted for a folding bone handled knife, the blade engraved "Southern Revenge," on one side and "Allison's Ace" on the other, the lid of the box painted with a monogram "RCA," Box- H.- 3 in., W.- 8 1/4 in., D.- 5 3/8 in. Provenance: The Estate of John Peter Eaves, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Cards are discolored, chips show signs of wear as do dice. Knife has small patch of rust near joint. The compartmentalized interior has separated from the box itself in some areas which is consistent with its age. Monogram on lid is faded. Handsome example.
