Pair of photomechanical prints on paper depicting scenes from 'Emperor Xuanzong's Flight to Shu,' the robed emperor and his attendants on horseback carrying banners through a mountain pass, after the original work dating from the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279), 23.5"h x 17"w sight of each, overall dimensions including frame 26.5"h x 20.5"w x 1"d. The original of this work is executed in ink, color and gold on a hanging scroll and is part of the permanent collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This particular scene depicts the imperial entourage fleeing to Shu after the execution of Xuanzong's favored concubine, Yang Guifei, who was blamed for the indifference of her lover to his duties.
