Carte des Isles Kouriles
A strong, dark impression of Bellin's finely engraved map of the Kurile Islands, the volcanic island chain extending from Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula to Hokkaido Island ("Is. Matsoumai") in northern Japan. Based on Russian sources, the richly detailed map also includes the Russian coast along the Sea of Okhotsk and a lush title cartouche with foliage and military paraphernalia. From Prevost d'Exiles' influential collection of travel narratives, Histoire Generale des Voyages.
