Suzanne Tourte was born in Cormontreuil (Marne). She began her art studies in Reims, before going to Paris to study first at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and then at the Beaux-Arts, where she entered the atelier of Lucien Simon. Fellow-pupils included Yves Brayer, Robert Humblot, and Jacques Ceria Despierre. She was appointed a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur and a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres. Suzanne Tourte was a member of both the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Indépendants, and a regular exhibitor at other Salons, including the Peintres et Graveurs Français. She won the Prix Blumenthal in 1932. Among many solo shows was one in 1940 at the Wildenstein gallery. In 1980, following her death the previous year, their was a memorial retrospective of her work at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais in Paris.
