Description
East Asia, China, Republic of China, ca. 1920s CE. An openwork brass holder designed to take a standard box of small wood matches. The holder is ornamented identically on both sides with finely detailed cloisonne Imperial five-toed dragons against cloud backgrounds with waves below; each dragon encircles a blue pill, representing the elixir of immortality. Excellent worksmanship. Size: 1.6" L x 2.6" W (4.1 cm x 6.6 cm)
